What is Your Favorite?

Hello everyone again!!
Just a few quick questions to ponder over. What is your favorite style of 80's rock music? Is it the pop teen idol favorites? Or are you a follower of main stream top 40 type of person? Or maybe you are a good old fashioned head banger like me. As you can see from my music lists above, my taste leans toward the harder side of 80's rock. Accept, Guns N Roses, Cinderella, and the granddaddy's of them all, Metallica. The loud drums, the screaming guitars, the harsh lyrics seem to suit me just fine. Now, don't get me wrong here. I will always pick a one hit wonder song, or a main stream top 40's hit before todays songs aired on the radio. They are just not my favorites. I'm sure there are a few decent bands and music out there in this modern era that we live in today. They are just not my first pick to listen to. I would have to say that the best modern band that I follow somewhat is Mudvayne. Local gents that somehow capture the old school rock sound that I crave. Thier new hit Do What You Do is really, really good. Thay would have to be good to play Ozzfest, which they have done in the past. So enough of present rock, this post is about 80's rock. I would have to admit that although my domain, if you will, is hard rock, I also know about the likes of the buggle gum 80's music as well. Artist such as Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, and Rick Astley are part of my musical memory.

Then there are the one hit wonders. The Futures so Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades by Timbuk 3, Mexican Radio by Wall of Voodoo, and Der Kommissar by After the Fire are just a few. The funny thing is, I still hear hear all of these, and other songs being played and given air time. I would like to believe that this is a testament of the quality and longevity that 80's music represents.

Now on to the Glam Rock scene. Artist such as David Bowie, Kiss, and Poison head the pack. Who could'nt forget the huge song from Britny Fox, Girls School? Smooth up in Ya from the Bullet Boys is another glam classic. Call it Glam Rock if you want, it still rocks really hard. I myself have a hard time telling the difference from good ol' fashioned hard rock and the glam rock scene. I like both equally as well. I know there was a fierce rivalry between the two types of bands back in the day, but I really, honestly can't tell the difference. I just hope were all friends now.

So, a few things to think about. Hopefully this post did the job and sparked some great memories in you. Stay tuned, and keep rockin!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://80srockhits.blogspot.com/2008/12/glam-pop-metal-or-top-40-what-is-your.html' title='Glam, Pop, Metal, or Top 40? Ronald Reagan was our president, MTV was gaining strength as a main stream and household name, and kids world wide spent a whole chunk of thier lives in front of it. Are you like me and can hear a good 80's rock jam on the radio and instantly be carried away to a great 80's memory? Or be flipping through your new satellite t.v. and happen to stop on one of the classic music video channels like VH1 and feel like you're still a youth gone wild teenager? Then welcome to my world. I believe I am turning into my father, because he used to say that times were easier when he was a youth, and I now believe the same thing. But I believe that it is an okay thing to crank up the volume when you hear a good 80's rock tune come on the radio. Trust me when I say that the front speakers are blown out of my econo car. Personal experiences and memories for me vary far and wide, as I was a member of the United States Navy while in the best decade there ever was. Okay, okay, stop laughing, I know I'm showing my age here. But in my second career in civilian life, I am known as Mr. 80's. Someone hears a good 80's rock hit and can't name it? Come see me. I usually know who it is and what album it is on. I'm just waiting for a version of Jeopardy, 80's rock hits version, to hit the air waves. Look out Ken Jennings. Yes Alex, I'll take Def Leppard Hysteria for 500 please. But seriously, 80's rock music, the hits, the videoes, the memories, all of it is and will continue to be a big part of my life. More posts to follow as I update this blog. Later for now and Rock On!!
